070. Collect 101 WDW postcards (8/101)

20110227_08front 20110227_08back

I found another postcard from a collection I already had! This one was sent to me by a school friend in August 1998 - we were just 13-years-old. I had been to Florida in June of the same year, so Mel (who sent this card) had lots of things in common to talk about.

It's a really great card and kept in amazing condition considering I've owned it for over 11 years. I wonder if this one will make it into a pin frame like another of the cards I've found.

I have no doubt that I will find more WDW postcards around the house. I still have all the old family photo albums from my trips as a child - I'd borrowed them about a year ago to scan some of the pictures onto my computer and I've not yet given them back to my parents. We often used to buy postcards to put into the photo albums to symbolise the parks and places we'd been to. I might have a flick through those albums this week and see what I can find!

070. Collect 101 WDW postcards (7/101)

20110226_07frontThis postcard was actually bought by me and sent to James in December 2002 - I found it today while tidying the spare room. The best bit was reading the back and listening to my 17-year-old self!

I wonder how many other WDW postcards I already have that I'd forgotten about?

032. Frame and display more Disney pins

Minnie & Mickey - Disney Pin Frame I'd been tidying the spare room today and came across some old cards and postcards that I'd sent to James over the years. I found a Minnie and Mickey Mouse 'Thinking of You' postcard that I sent him in December 2002 - I'd gone to WDW for a family holiday, we had only been together a couple of months.

I'd had this black frame for ages, always intending to fill one half with pins and the other with a photo of some sort - I thought the postcard would look great instead. Choosing the pins was easy, they had to be Minnie and Mickey!

The frame is almost a couple of inches thick so could stand up on it's own without the back on, which is good because with the pin backs getting in the way I wouldn't have been able to stand it up. It's now sitting on quite a high shelf of our bookcase in the living room, having it stand up without the back on means it can be seen much easier because it's not pointing slightly up - if that makes any sense at all!

022. Watch 100 never-seen-before movies (7/100)

I had heard really good things about this movie, like it had almost become a real cult classic. It was only going to be available on Sky Anytime until tomorrow, so I thought it was a good idea to get around to finally watching it. I'd had the movie on my Love Film subscription for a long time, but had never received it.

I really enjoyed it and considering I'd wanted to see it for so long I didn't really know what the story was about! It was a quirky love story that turned out to not actually be a love story in the end.

I'm really glad I got to see it, finally.

026. Make 101 Disney pin trades (33/101)

026-200211

I received four new pins last week.

The Disneyland Park pin is from the Paris park, I'm visiting that park next month so this is the first of many pins that I'll have from there!

Thank you to Kristina, aka kristina87 from DISBoards for my newest postcard, I love it! See all my postcards here - if you can help with my project, please email me.

023. Watch 20 movies in the cinema (2/20)

I love the story behind this movie - something quite dark and sinister with a love story laid over the top. I hadn't read anything about this movie, or the book it's based on, which I'm really glad for because I think it helped me to enjoy it a lot more.

Some elements of the movie reminded me of two books I read in school for my English Literature A Level. The concepts of creating life from 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley and then controlling life and death in 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell.

I'm going to add 'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro to my list of books I want to read during my 1001 days.

022. Watch 100 never-seen-before movies (5/100)

James and I watched the movie 'Valentine's Day' last night, even though today is actually Valentine's Day.

We both liked it, but didn't love it. It was just a good lovey movie for a Sunday evening. It's definitely from the 'Love Actually' school of romantic movies, with all those couples and friends that intertwine with one city on one day. I'm glad I didn't go see it in the cinema, I usually save those occasions for the big films that are worth it, but I'm glad I got to see it on TV.

Another film to add to my growing list.

023. Watch 20 movies in the cinema (1/20)

We went to see Tangled at the cinema today! It's been out in the USA for a couple of months and here in the UK just a few weeks, so we finally were able to go and see it. It wasn't available in 3D, but that didn't bother us because we're not 3D fans anyway.

It was a really cute movie, it's made me want long, magic, blonde hair!

I love my Disney movies, but I didn't think this was a great classic. Rapunzel is a lovely story and Disney have been working on it for years, so I'm glad it finally made it to release. I really like the Rapunzel character, and it's great to have another blonde princess!

035. Buy shelves and organise the office

I ♥ IKEA

I've had these boxes for a while and I hadn't yet put them together, until today. I bought them from an eBay seller because going down to IKEA in Essex just for these boxes seemed a bit too far to go. I ordered the DVD storage boxes and some boxes for A4 paper, I still haven't received the larger boxes because the seller sent me two sets of DVD boxes and wouldn't resend until I'd sent the incorrect item back! And they send through second class post, which means I am still waiting for my boxes after sending the incorrect item back two weeks ago. I've been reassured that they're on their way, but they could've sent first class because of their mistake the first time round?

GAH! Never mind, as long as they arrive then it'll all be okay. I've been waiting on these boxes for weeks and I've not been able to organise all my papers and shelves because of the waiting! If they arrive next week I'll be able to finally finish organising the shelves in the office - I cannot wait!

027. Send 20 postcards through postcrossing.com (6/20)

Norwich Postcards

I have more postcards written out and ready to send as part of Postcrossing. All I have to send right now are cards of Norwich, I'll be buying some more unusual and arty cards from Paperchase soon.

021. [currently reading] The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland Paris

It might seem unusual to count a guide book in my list of books I'm going to read, but the Unofficial Guides are much more than that. I first read an Unofficial Guide for Walt Disney World in 2008 and it's one of few books I've read cover-to-cover in so long. I think the whole series is fantastic and I was over the moon when I knew it existed and just had to have it.

James and I are going to Disneyland Paris at the end of March and now the parks' opening hours have been released I am planning our itinerary! The Unofficial Guide will help me with that planning and teach me all the things I need to know to make our trip the best it can be and so we don't waste any time at all.

020. Go to a live comedy show

020.Go to a live comedy show On Wednesday February 9, James and I went to Nottingham to see Russell Howard at the Capital FM Arena.

James had booked the Wednesday and Thursday off work, while I only had one day of holiday to take so I split mine into half days - I worked Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon. We go the train from Norwich to Nottingham, which runs straight through with no changes, on Wednesday lunchtime. We checked into the Travelodge on Maid Marian Way. Our room was obnoxiously large and was technically a family room, complete with sofas. The view we had was pretty amazing and I'm glad I had my camera for it.

After a bit of a relax and some rubbish afternoon TV quiz shows we got ready for dinner which consisted of burgers at the Walkabout which, lucky for us, was only round the corner from the hotel! James had never eaten at one and always wanted to try their kangaroo dishes. He settled for a kangaroo burger and I went with just a regular ol' beef burger and a Cherry Cola cocktail.

Russell's show was so amazing, but the thing is I can never remember anything from it! As the jokes were coming and the stories came out I wanted to hold on to them so badly so I could retell a few at work the next day, but nothing! It's the same with music gigs, I know the songs were played but remembering the order of the setlist always fails me! The good news is that the DVD for the show will be out in November, I can buy that and relive the jokes over and over again!

We had a great time and felt very tired after the train journeys and long days, especially because I had to work as well! Our next comedy show is Lee Evans at London's O2 Arena at the end of September - cannot wait!

043. Keep a food diary for a month

Last year, during September and October, I started using an App on my phone called My Fitness Pal to record a food diary and to count calories. I was doing really well and lost about 11lbs, then the winter came and Christmas came and I'm just starting to pick it back up.

Today was the first time in months that I've completed a full day of my food diary! And I was below my calorie allowance! The very first time I counted my calories I was over by a lot! I'm online everyday and I have the App on my phone, so I'm going to try really hard to stick to it. When I'm at work I have no excuse not to know the calorie content of the food I eat, it's our company that gather the back-of-pack information for retailers shopping websites - all I have to do is look up the product in our image library and all the info is there! It's handy for random things that are hard to find, I can just add them myself.

I last weighed myself during January and I hadn't done so previous to that since the beginning of November. I'd only gained 3lbs over the Christmas break - which I thought wasn't too bad at all, considering all the food and sweets we had!

Current Weight: 202.6lbs

027. Send 20 postcards through postcrossing.com (4/20)

I sent my first postcard via PostCrossing in December, today I've written out three more to send. So far all I have to send are postcards from my city, Norwich, but there aren't too many designs to choose from in the Tourist Info store. I'm in London and Disneyland Paris next month, so I'll be able to pick up some different postcards there.

I'm still waiting to receive my first card from another Postcrossing member, but now the first card I sent has been registered as received my address will be allocated to someone who wants to send a card.

Things have been very quiet for my 101 WDW postcard mission at the moment, so I'm going to see what I can do to kick it up a notch!

094. Meet up with my Uni friends five times

The last time I meet up with Katy (above left), Vikki (above right) and Steve (not pictured), my friends and housemates from my time at University, was in April 2010. We did try to organise another reunion for August or September, but work and other things kept everyone busy.

We have now managed to pin down a date and a location for our next reunion! We all live in different parts of the country since graduating, so it means that one of us will have to travel that little bit further than the others to meet 'in the middle'. We've met previously in Doncaster and Nottingham, both were long journeys for me so this time we're meeting much closer to where I am! In July we'll be meeting up in Cambridge, it's a city none of us have visited so we'll probably get to do lots of touristy things as well as have a good catch up. I'm looking forward to it and I'm happy that it will only take me an our to get there!

022. Watch 100 never-seen-before movies (3/100)

James and I watched Avatar tonight. We never saw it at the cinema in 3D, there just seemed like so much hype surrounded the film that in the end I was kind of put off from watching it. It premiered on TV at Christmas time, we recorded it and have just got around to being in the mood to give it a go.

It was definitely a film made for the 3D experience, you could really see where the 3D would've looked amazing on the big screen. There's no denying that it's a beautifully made film, I'm just sad that the story wasn't something more amazing as well. Bits of it reminded me of a cartoon movie I saw when I was younger called Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. Other parts have comparisons to Pocahontas, which have been pointed out by others!

062. Save £100 a month (£200/£3300)

I've not been focusing on any of my goals that much recently. Today is the first day of a new month, which means another £100 into my savings account! I had to dip into my savings to cover off my crazy New Year spending after Christmas! It's all gone back now that pay day has passed, plus an extra £100 to cover my saving goal for this month.

A lot of my goals are month long commitments to do something or give something up, not sure if I'm ready for that yet and I have such a long way to go until my 1001 days is over. I did take a mutli vitamin this evening, so perhaps I can start on goal 049 Take a multi vitamin pill everyday for 3 months? I got ill again at the weekend, so anything that can prevent that happening again can only be a good thing - bring on the vitamins!
